ISTD

Taking the format for the publication i have applied to to more of the body copy, its really starting to pull together. What i think is working is the simplicity of the layout, it works well across the page and how everything interacts with the simple elements on the page. Visually you can read the relevant information and the pattern of the different sections is defiantly starting to became more viable.

________________________________________________

ISTD

Having played around with the layouts, i have stared to create the layout format for the pages. Each page element representing a different part of the text being either // DESCRIPTION // CONVERSATION // DESCRIPTION AND CONVERSATION. By doing the first 5 pages, i have now got a feel for how it would all pull together. Im still working on the hiyeracry of the pages, by using opacities to highlight certain elements. You can also see that its starting to have a feel of a magazine article but still using the restrictions layout to bring the whole publication together.

One element i am particularly happy with is the extracts page, i think this works really well, it happened by accident i was just playing with the style of the extract and i really like the overload type. Its legible but only just, and as its an extract itself fit stands out so i don't necessarily need to have it  full colour for it to still grab your attention. I can also use this with my range.

ISTD

Here i have taken on the initial concepts from my layout style designs and started to transfer them into the text, i have tried out a few variations on the way the text could be laid out, this is just tog et a feel for the page, the amount of white space, how effectively to use it and where things should lie.

I basically want to create a layout format for the text, so that if further publications were to be out together of his work it would follow this exact layout and structure. IM defiantly going to put this main layout on my boards, for further development in the future.

ISTD

Here i have just brought the broken up text into in-design and spread it out in order to see what space i am working with and how best to move the text around. I am using AVANT GARDE, as my font choice, i did think about using a serifed font as generally that is whats used in books, but this is a simple rule that can be broken and they tend to use more sans serif fonts in magazines when it comes to simple articles etc. And this is the sort of style that I'm going on.

ISTD

Taking into consideration the fact theres a lot of speech, when it came to the layout i worked out that there was 3 different styles of body copy. // DESCRIPTION // CONVERSATION // DESCRIPTION AND CONVERSATION.
Looking at this i thought it would be good to try and separate these styles in 3 distinct layout formats throughout this publication. Making certain elements more obvious than others. This gives me the chance to work around with the leading and kerning of the text, the weight etc.

// one thing in my initial ideas that i think i neglected was the fact that this needed to mimic or bring elements from a magazine.
So thinking about this in my initial ideas i have brought in certain elements from magazines to help break up the text in the three distinct ways.

By doing this format it has also left me room to play around with the pace with which a reader would read the text, this is very important to my design because i wanted to try and control the way people would read and with which speed they would read.

I have elect pages blank so that i can put extracts from the text on, which will link across the range when i make postcards that mimic the extracts.

// INITIAL LAYOUT DEVELOPMENT AND BREAKING UP PAGES

// INITIAL CONCEPT OF PRODUCT

ISTD

As I'm doing a 21 page publication, i need to split the text into 21 segments, or as close to as possible and from there then work out the pagination of the book. even though it won't exactly follow the standard book format.

going through the text i picked up on a trend, there was a lot of speech. speech kind of restricts the main formats in which it can be displayed, so when it comes to doing layout i need to take this into consideration as its quite a substantial part of the text.

ISTD - NEW DELIVERABLE

We had a crit on Monday, involving the group i was with on Thrusdays workshop. This was very useful, e focused mainly on what we wanted tog et out of the brief, the initial ideas we already had and where to go from there. Seeing as i had already developed this idea this put me in quite a good position, but iw anted to change my original idea so i was going in with a clean slate.

I went in and discussed my idea and brought in some context f the sort of thing i wanted to create. Settling on a style of flip open book that you would work with one page at a time. I still wanted the 21 page publication that you would read one page at a time. My main problem was creating a range of items around it.

So talking it through, i came up with new deliverables:

21 page publication
Single page read
Different coloured front covers
A range of postcards with extracts on
Possibly posters too

So from this i have started working it anew. Firstly working out the net, so that i could then go from there and experiment with the pages.

Bellyband

In order to incorporate the broadening element of the TYPE MUSEUM into my project, i wanted it (from the outset) to be subtle. This was a lot more about the posters and their processes opposed to the branding element itself.

So, in order for this to work i have created the idea of using a bellyband that would be wrapped around the box in a commercial sense. I wanted it to be minimal because the posters are so different, and at the end of the day in a real world bellybands never last long.

From this, i have gone through the range of different fonts that i have tried, tested and some have worked some haven't. I tried out different layouts, because this is so large scale i wanted to use a slab serif font, purely because it would take up more space and could be represented more as an image than text.

Once i settled on the most appropriate layout, using the font i wanted i have added the generic type museum logo, this needs to stay the same as it will be the main representative of the brand being used.

There is one problem with this, printing it will be difficult as it's larger than the formats allowed downstairs, so I'm either going to leave it as a mock up, or just print one side. Im undecided yet.

// OUTSIDE

Banner Display

I have mocked up the displays that would be used outside the event, so that people would know what was going on where to go etc. I have taken elements from the whole branding identity i have created and transferred them across to the display units. I wanted to create something a little abstract, that would only focus on the relevant information about who's at the event and what its about.

WEEK 11 - NOVEMBER

Sunday 27 November 2011

THIS WEEK

So, this week was all about the production side of my briefs. It has actually been a really successful week, i have got loads done and all the deliverables for the D&AD and Processing brief are pretty much done, as well as a significant improvement with the solicitor brief.

WHAT I'VE DONE:

D&AD
Ticket - DONE
Tote - DONE
Publication - DONE
Poster - DONE
Certificate - DONE

Processing
Map - DONE
Tote - DONE
T-shirt - DONE
Tag - DONE
Signage - DONE
Animation - DONE
Poster - DONE
Flyer - DONE

Solicitor
Designs (brand identity) - DONE
Envelope - DONE
Letterhead Holder - DONE

Poster
Packaging - DONE
Rasters - DONE
Less is only - DONE

WHAT I NEED TO DO:

D&AD
Polaroid Skin
Display Banners

Processing
Put all together and shoot

Solicitor
Business Card  - NEED STOCK AND LASER CUT EMBOSS
Large Envelope - NEED TO DESIGN
Compliment Slip - NEED STOCK TO PRINT
Letterhead - NEED STOCK TO PRINT
Seal - NEED TO ORDER

(ALL STOCK IS ORDERED WAITING TO BE DELIVERED)

Poster
Need to mount all the posters
Need to photograph them all
Need to do slip to go around box
Need to do small publication of each poster to go into the box
Need to print the three reaming posters onto handmade stock

So generally this is good, the Processing brief is now finished just need to photograph them all together. The D&AD brief is nearly done just need to do the polaroid skin and display banner. With the solicitor brief i need the stocks to come through in order for me to send the rest to print.
Theres still quite a bit to do with the poster brief, but should be no more than 2 days work.
Then i can focus on finishing the ISTD brief and the Crown brief.

I have taken some photos of the all the products I have produced this week, some have turned out better than others, but this was more of an experimentation then a final shoot. however some of them do work well so i will use them as the final shots. It was a good time for me to gage how much I've done this week, and what needs to be finished. I am very close to getting three briefs finished now, so thats great and i can focus on the others and get them done.

[SCRIBD]

Less is only more print

Whilst down in the print room i noticed the sport colour print that has been done, and immediately i thought that this was a great idea for this poster. It is very appropriate to the content that I have chosen. Im so happy to have come ups with this idea, because it really delvers on a visual note and resonates the content.
Speaking to James, i had to set the files colour to 243 across the RGB scale, this was quite tricky because until i printed it i would have no idea how well it would work. I decided to do it across two colours, using the red and the white because i have used a lot of white background in the posters so far and the colour choices were red black and white. So i have printed off both.

// INITIAL DEVELOPMENT AND VISUAL HIYERACRY

// FINAL POSTERS

Whats really interesting with these posters, was when they were printed on the red you initially couldn't tell at all and both James and I thought it hadn't work. However, once the light caught it it worked better than the white one. What i really like is the different colours it creates with the different light, and ow it has v=become a really visually interactive poster because you have to view it from different angles in order for it to work.
I am going to mount both and see which one i preferrer, but i think the red one is defiantly the strongest.

Printing processes

In order tog et the right print technique i have done some little samples on the best way to get the print.
OPTION 1 Firstly, i tried embossing the larger prating into stock, this has actually worked out really well, so here i could just print the design onto the appropriate substrate and then emboss the poster with the printing plate. OPTION 2 Secondly, I PVAed the wood and then ran some ink across it to print onto the sheet, after putting loads of PVA on i realised that i had lost all the definition of the print, so it would come out as a huge blob. Which it did. So i then decided to really water the PVA down, and then printing it. This worked out a lot better because the liquid just soaked into the wood, leaving the detail highlighted.

Now, Both options work. Personally i think the best idea for time and print wise will be tog et the designs printed onto the hand made stock and then emboss the designs myself. The MDF will be too thick to fit through the huge roller in the textiles room. I think this will work better and i can get more definition using this technique.

Larger poster raster

After sitting in the laser cut room for 2 and a half hours......... luckily i book fit at the end of the day and brought my laptop with me.. I managed to get the large restarted printing plate done. IM so glad i made the mistake of not reversing the print earlier on in my development because i think if i had to do it with this one i would have shot someone!

I am really happy with the outcome though, this is a really strong plate and i think its simplicity will deliver some really good effects once i start printing with it. I'm really happy, the next stage will be to get the right printing processes for the 3 last posters so that i can get them done.

Certificate

For the certificate for the D&AD event, i wanted to use something different o create it, so that is has more a unique feel to it then just digitally printed. I'd heard about drawing with a pen on the vinyl cutter downstairs, and i thought that this could be a really good idea. Instead of having it printed digitally, i would have the circle element of the design printed with the pen.
I wanted to use this because it has a very subtle difference between the printed media, and the penned media. The pen creating a slightly indent and a slightly greasy quality to the look of the design. it catches the light differently, and when inspected you can see the strokes made by the pen.
this was a really fun experience for me, because its yet another process that has opened up to me that i could use in the future.

d&ad tickets

In order for you to get into the D&AD talk you need to have a ticket, so i have taken on the ticket design that i received when i went and brought across the style of design i have been using across the rest of my work. This was the easiest to do, because the content has already been delivered so it was a case of playing around witht he layout, and pulling it all together. I really want this ticket to have a realistic feel to it, but have some focus on the media with which it is printed.

There would be two ways of receiving this ticket, firstly online (like i did originally) and then through the post. Creating two different tactile elements to the design. The design would be the same for both.

// FINAL DESIGN

I chose to use this design because it is the clearer out of the development i have done. The information is set out in a clear way, each bit is legible and the code (being the most important part) is not cluttered with other information.

Compliment slip development

For the complement slip, again it was a case of bringing the elements that i have already used together to start forming a coherent feel tot he brand. As I'm really starting to get a feel for how i want it all to look, this was more playing around with the more appropriate layout than the chosen images i will use.

I defiantly wanted this to link with the envelope design as this is genially what i would be sent in, so it makes sense that that style resonates with the design. This is why i have chosen the design with the logo and the line. It beings together the two designs but i can still play around with the layout of the pattern designs.

// FINAL DESIGN

Letterhead development

I have tried a variety of different variations with regards to the look of the letterhead that i will be creating. Some just suing the logo, some using the pattern more than the logo. I want it still to have the feel of a gernic letterhead, so I'm not playing around with the layout of the body copy too much, its more about the design that will go around it than the look of the layout of text.

I started to pull together the other elements i have been using with the envelope design, and the letterhead holder design, again to form a more coherent look to the stationary. I particularly like the last lot of designs, they are booming more professional in their look and feel and are starting to take on an element of corporate design which is what i wanted.

__________________________________________________

This is the final design i have settled on, the patterns in the middle will be knocked back again, so you can see them but only just, this is so that they won't interfere with he body copy that will go over the top. I want it to be subtle.

Designs so far

These are the stationary designs that i have put together so far, pulling them together like this gives me the opportunity to stand back and see how the brand is working as a whole. This is important because i need to check that the imagery it really working. I think its really starting to come together, and once printed they will work very well together. It's is very corporate, a bit more corporate than i would have liked, however the industry that this is marketed within needs thats professional look so inadvertently i think i have designed for that audience quite well.

Letterhead Cover design and Colour

After settling on the deliverables, and the style i wanted to create I have chosen to develop the 'blue range'. this is for the mock ups and the hand in, but in total there would be 3 ranges for the colour choice. Taking on the blue range i used the pantone swatch books to create my colour swatches for the stationary. As there will be range of different media used, i have taken a selection from the coated, uncoated and sold matt range. this way all my basis are covered when it comes to printing off my stationary.

// COLOUR SWATCHES

LETTERHEAD HOLDER

After choosing the appropriate colours, i have developed some ideas for the design of the letterhead holder. Seeing as this is going to be one of the larger prints and have more detail on it. By doing this first i can take elements of it and bring it across into other development for the other formats.

[ IMAGES OF SKETCHES FROM NOTEBOOK]

I chose to go with a more fluid looking design, with some curves in it so that it looks more professional, and has more of a corporate feel to it. Once that design was done, i have brought in the pattern design i created when making the seal development. This is to add another visual to the piece apart from just the logo.

// THE FINAL DESIGN

ENVELOPE DESIGN

Within this i decided to take on the envelope design, and bring across elements from the letterhead holder so that it starts to form a coherent brand image. The envelope shape is the standard envelope design. This is because i wanted it to have more of a corporate feel. The envelope design is fairly simple in its design, and hold all the elements that i needed it to. The logo being the key feature. it must be the most recognisable element of the design.
I wanted the inside to be covered, again to add a different visual, so that its not just a flat an standard envelope.

// INSIDE

// FRONT

I have really knocked back the opacity on the pattern design, this is so you can just about see it
but it won't detract from the main logo

// FINAL DESIGN

This is the style of stationary that i will now take on and develop further. I wanted to have a look at the general overview of the deliverables so that i could get a feel for how it would look. Everything needs tweaking but now I have the basics to work with. Im happy with the style, i just need to simplify it a bit more and get the deliverables designed and made.

Wednesday 23 November 2011

mocked up stationary

THIS IS SOME VERY BASIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE HOW I WANT THE STATIONARY TO LOOK. I HAVE TAKEN ON THE ELEMENTS THAT I THINK ARE MOST APPROPRIATE AND DEVELOPED THEM. AFTER PLAYING AROUDN WITH THE SEAL, IT HAS GIVEN ME ANOTHER IMAGE ELEMENT TO PLAY WITH, THE PATTERNED LOGO IMAGE AND I CAN NOW BRING THIS INTO THE DESIGNS JUST TO GIVE AN ADDED DEPTH INSTEAD OF PLAYING AROUND WITH PATTERNS. THE DESIGN IS TOO COMPLICATED FOR IT BE PATTERNED.
SO I HAVE DECIDED TO BRING A SIMPLER CONCEPT TO THE DESIGN, MAKING IT LOOK MORE CORPORATE BUT WITH A STYLISH FINISH.

range of deliverables mapped out

I have been getting frustrated with the Solicitor brief, purely because i think i've had some many ideas on styles and deliverables that I've been overcomplicating it, and thats shown through my poor designs decisions.
SOOO

I have decided to set out the design deliverables, and actually draw them out because now they are 'drawn in stone' and now all i have to do is apply the logo and brand design idea to them. I will start out by applying an overall design idea for the stationary and then develop them on from there instead of going on bone by one. I want it to form a cohesive brand identity, so i need to work out how i want that too look before doing anything else.

Signage

After having the crit let week with Fred and everyone, i realised that some signage should be done for the event./ Instructions to walk around the university and how to get to certain rooms, and talks etc. Seeing as the majority of it would be happening in woodwork, the placement of the signs is fairly obvious. I took on the same format of script for the rest for he posters etc and used the 'nav' part in order to insinuate the direction, it is defiantly the most appropriate out of all the web script.

I have photos hoped the chosen designs onto the images that were originally used in the projected. However, i will need to go and make some more, some better ones to help illustrate the placement of the designs. Context is key to this working well.

NEw posters

After creating a more consistent brand image, i have pulled together the brand identity for the processing brief and decided to bring it into the poster designs for the main event. I think it needed re-doing just to pull together the whole identity of the image. now that the more complicated design work has been done, it means that these can be designed very easily and very quickly (being the key point). I will be using the same colours as before, grey and green. So thats a consideration i didn't need to worry about when making these. I wanted them to mimic slightly the designs for the event map, so that it would all work together.

// DESIGN FOR THE NEW EVENT POSTER

Raster poster mark 2

After the initial rastering i did of the dyland sayings, i decided to enlarge them because they were too small to function as a printing plate. I have made them much bigger so you can really pick out the detail. What i also realised was that i needed to reverse the imagery so that it was mirror image in order for it to print successfully onto the paper that i will use. this was something that i hadn't thought-out about a and without the development i would have still had no idea. SO it was a complete waste of time. I am much happier with the outcomes here because they are much larger and they will transfer across a lot easier.

Logo seal

I have done some development and mock up designs for the seal i want to create as past of the branding for the Solicitor brief. I think it will add an authenticity to the design work, and it will bring together the brand image in a traditional but modern looking way. the seal will be used on the envelopes, letterheads and complement slips, once the rest of the work is designed.
Seeing as the seal is going to be no bigger than a 10 pence piece, it needs to be simple enough for there to be detail and it to pick out the appropriate shape i want. Taking this into consideration i have done some designs, that are all quite simple in nature but give off the brand image that i wanted to a chi eve.
Whilst doing this i have also seen a way to bring my brand together in a more coherent fashion.
// This is the logo i have decided to use for my seal, its simple and entailed at the same time./ It has taken an element from the brand logo and brought it out on its own working as just an image. It'll still be recognisable. I think this will work stronger on its own.

Box production

This is the final stages of the production of my poster box. It is all finished now, and i actually managed to help which was good! It works so well, and all the posters fit within it, the next stage is to varnish it and then finish the posters to put in. I want to create a bell band to wrap around and a publication to go along side which will tell the person what each poster is, how it was made and why.

TOTE PRINTS

Tote Bag Prints

I have taken some pictures of the tote bags together, just displaying the range. i will take better pictures once all the items are done but just for now I have something to display with regards to the final product for the bags.

TOTE PRINTS

Tote Prints
Yesterday I managed to set both my screens for printing the tote bags for both the event promotions i am doing. This meant today i was able to start screen printing them. I am really happy with how the D&AD posters have turned out. The pattern is really striking and it looks very interesting on the tote bag.

I am a little disappointed with the processing one as part of the screen has been blocked, and i think thats but the gum tape. So i need to reclean it and do them again. I also realise sprinting the florescent greens as not working as its too pale and won't stand out. I did try to marble together both the colours, and the last one worked. If only the screens wasn't blocked. Either way I'm happy with the layout of both the bags.

Poster rasters

I have finally been able to do my two other posters, the raster of the Dylan thomas sayings. It took quite a bit of 'arsing about' before i could actually get the image to raster because for some reason the laser cutter wouldn't read the file but it worked on other computers, and this was annoying as it ate into my laser cutter slot.

However, i did manage to raster them. Immediately i realised that they are too small, I haven't yet printed with them so I'm not sure how much detail i will actually get but i have a feeling it will come out as a huge blob. So this means I will have to re-print them tomorrow. This isn't a problem as i have a slot booked, so I'm just going to have to enlarge the files. Hopefully after that they will work.

Poster Packaging

Poster Packaging

I managed to start manufacturing my box for my posters. This was really exciting, because i haven't done anything like this before, and being able to see something come from nothing is brilliant. I wasn't allowed to use all the big machinery because unfortunately I'm too small.. Which isn't great but i did get to help out here and there!

We managed to get the frame of the box together and glued, and tonight I have to go pick up some hinges for the lid. Tomorrow will be a case of putting the lid and finishing it, as in sanding and varnishing, if i choose to varnish. I think i will because at the moment it looks untreated and a little cheap.

Monday 21 November 2011

Poster packaging

I have done some research into ideas for the packaging of my posters, I knew that i wanted it to be box shaped, and that it needed to fit all the different a2 posters that I have created.

It's really important to me that it is of high quality, and has the handmade finish that the other posters I have done have. I need to do this to also tie in the posters and packaging, so that they all work together as a set.

So, i came up with the idea of creating a hand crafter box that would hold the posters. Now, i wasn't sure about the best way to go about this, because i needed to fact run how long it would take to make a box.
I went down to Woodwork, and had a really good chat with Matt Parks, he told me that it would take put o an hour and a half to create the box. Once done, adding joining etc and varnishing, if i choose too, would add another hour and half so essentially half a day.
This is brilliant because i thought it would take FOREVER!

So this is the avenue i am going to go down in order to create my packaging. I have done the appropriate measurements so that the box will fit all the posters.

Week 10 - NOVEMBER

Friday 18 November 2011

Rational - REEVALUATED

TIMETABLE

I have set up a timetable for next week, which is all about producing the briefs that I have ready so that they can be finished and I can focus on the deliverables for the others.

DELIVERABLES

DELIVERBALES FOR EACH BRIEF: (RE-evaluated)

BRIEF 1 – 4 posters, all need to be mounted and packed in box design

BRIEF 2 – (NEW SOLICITOR) Stationary set; envelope, letterhead, business card, compliment slip, pack and seal.

BRIEF 3 – ; Stationary, welcome pack, keys (+packaging), menu, receipt holder, fire + safety signs.

BRIEF 4 – Publication

BRIEF 5 – Tote bag, event map, signage, animation, t-shirt, tag, poster and flyer.

BRIEF 6 – Tote bag, publication, certificate, powerpoint, ticket, poster and polaroid.

INTERIM SELF - EVALUATION

General evaluation of my progress, I am working through the briefs in a sporadic way. This hasn’t been a negative thing up until now, not because I haven’t covered the briefs, I am now just confusing myself with the direction of each brief. I need to go through each brief ad systematically evaluate my progress so far and where I need to be with them by next week.

After last weeks tutorial I managed to gain some direction for my briefs, mainly by dropping one of them – ‘the publication brief’ – this was a strategic drop due to the lack of potential in this brief compared to potential in others. Fred made this clear to me in my tutorial, and I agreed with him, my time would be better spent investigating the other briefs I have done and pushing them.

So getting back to this weeks crit, by this crit I wanted to have the 3 briefs I am investigating further in a better position.

As shown on the evaluation sheet I have made quite a lot of progress on two out of the three briefs, the weakest by far being the solicitor brief, and this is because I defiantly went down the wrong avenue of development. With regards to the D&AD brief and Processing, I have now established the appropriate identities for each brief, and as I am process driven. They are now at a stage to start making deliverables. My main worry with this is time, because I’m process driven everything I do has to be produced slowly. And as every brief has elements of being process heavy I need to work out the most strategic way of producing these briefs, quickly, efficiently and successfully – tall order??

So, the next stage is to go through each brief, outline what needs to be done when and how.

BRIEF 1 – POSTERS: All posters are designed, its just a case of getting them produced. 6 out of the 10 are done, it’s the remaining 4 that need to be finished. They need laser cutting, all my slots are booked, and stocks arrived on Wednesday (16th November), so I’m now in a position to get them printed and ready. After this they need packaging – and I am dedicating two days to get that sorted once all the posters are produced.

BRIEF 2 – POSTERS: Publication: As mentioned previously this has been dropped, due to the fact that there is not enough potential in. This brief compared to other briefs. But I want to consider this brief for my FMP. In replacement of this I am turning the Solicitor brief into my second major brief.

BRIEF 3 – POSTERS: Hotel: This brief is currently on hold due to the fact I want to get the other briefs done and out the way. Thus far I have the new identity of the brand, it’s a case of now spending time on the deliverables and getting those designs right.

BRIEF 4 – Competition ISTD: This is my ‘playful’ brief, it has a lot of scope to just play with and get produced, so I am going to do this along with the Hotel brief once the other 3 are delivered.

ADD BRIEF 5 – Solicitor: I still have a lot of development to do with this brief, it is not at the stage that I wanted it to be at by now. So this is something I really need to crack on with, I have the deliverables sorted and they are fairly simple so I need to get the designs nailed.

ADD BRIEF 6 – Processing: I am happy with the stage I’m at with this brief, the designs are done I just need to produce the deliverables. I need to highlight the deliverables again just to make sure I’m getting the most out of them.

ADD BRIEF 7 – D&AD: The design and identity for this brand is done, it’s now a case of producing work. There’s a bit more development I need to go, just different examples, but generally I am ready to produce the design work.

BRIEFS SO FAR

Just to round up where my progress is with my briefs so far:

BRIEFS:
1. Poster [ON HOLD] - 80% fininshed, need to do packaging and last prints.
2. Hotel [ON HOLD]- 50% Logo designed, brand identity sorted, need to apply to media and print.
3. ISTD[ON HOLD] - 20% Still in the development stage.
4. Solicitor Brief - 60% Logo designed and happy with, need to apply designs to stationary and print.
5. DANAD - 75% Nearly finished, just need to get everything printed and delivered.
6. Processing - 75% Nearly finished, need to do final tweaks and print.

PROCESSING BRIEF

Again, since last weeks tutorial I have taken on the processing brief, and the plan is to make the deliverables for the event. This is probably the brief that I have made the most changes too. My aim was to create a logo that could be used across the formats that I intend to use, and then within that create the range of deliverables for the evnt. I have made quite a lot of progress with this brief, and designed all the deliverables, it's just a case now of getting them printed. Again, with this brief I intend to use processes and finishing techniques to create the final outcomes, so the printing side of things is larger than the design side. but now i have the designs, I can start making them.

Solicitor brief

Since my tutorial with Fred, I have decided to turn  my Live solicitor brief into a substantial brief. I am really happy about this because i see a lot of potential within it, to create some strong stationary using processes and finishes.
I am still in the developing stage of this project, because theres processes I want to use that will take time, such as creating a seal that will have to be engraved. Using the laser cutter and embossing certain things into stocks. At the moment I Have changed the brand colours, and brought together the logo to create a pattern. Im not happy with this, i think it looks cheap and not exactly the sophisticated look im going for, so i defiantly need to develop this futher. I plan to strip it all back and use the logo itself, and maybe forget using the pattern.

DANAD

I changed my briefs last week, taking the advice from Fred and one of the aims was to create some event deliverables for the D&AD talk that happened a month ago.
Since then I have been using the brand image that I created for the poster and using it across a range of different media, to create the promotion that would go along side the event. I have mapped out the deliverables that i want to create, and I am in the process of getting them printed and delivered. I will be using screen printing, and laser cutting for some of the deliverables so I have had to factor that into my timetable and organisation, but i'm happy with the style of designs that I have done.
I do have more development to do, just working out some specific layouts and styles for the printing technique, but I have made a significant improvement from where the brief was last week.

Animation

I created a really short animation taking elements from the branding that i have created and used it to make a visual that would be played on the entrance to the leeds college of art. This is to immediately attract attention to the people walking in and direct them to the event, so that they can clearly see the symbols and match them up to signage and hopefully go to whatever is happening that day.
