Lazer Cutting

Today i had my laser cutting session in order to cut out the posters. This ended up being more of a test piece then an actual finial cut. There were a few things that went wrong, but I'm really happy i did this early because it means i can re-do them and i will have time to fix them and have them re-cut.

After playing around with the laser cutter i have finally found the result i was looking for, using the actual acrylic has really helped me see the definition i can get. So i have booked another session and should be able to produce the a2 poster i want.

After realising the mistake, they gave me some free acrylic that i could runs some tests on to see how the effect would be i decided to use the other poster, because it had thicker lines between the words therefore defining them more and giving it more of a structure.

So, firstly i decided to engrave within the plastic instead of sitting straight through. this was a really nice effect and i think it would look a lot better on a darker substrate because it gets really lost within the plastic which is quite annoying. However when you look at it, it does give it a textured feel too it which is another effect i hadn't really thought out.

After cutting out my first poster it was pointed out to me that they had given me
polystyrene instead of acrylic, so instead of making clean cuts through the plastic it
had burned and melted the edges away so that all the edges between the words snapped
and broke off, making block text instead of clear text. This was frustrating, however i do
actually quite like the effect its had on the plastic sheeting. But i would prefer to have had
a cleaner cut line and some more definition between the type.
